On Saturday August 10, Laval’s four science museums: C.I.EAU, Musée de la santé Armand-Frappier, Cosmodôme and Éco-Nature – Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles joined forces to present a unique water and space event on the Berge des Baigneurs.
The 100% free, waste-themed activities attracted nearly 200 participants, despite the flooding that affected many Laval residents.
The day kicked off at 12:30 p.m. with speeches by Ms. Flavia Novac, Sainte-Rose city councillor, Denise Cloutier, President of the C.I.EAU Board of Directors, and Mélanie Paquette, C.I.EAU Director.
Throughout the event, hosted by master of ceremonies Martin Lévesque, participants were informed of the specific activities of each of the science museums present, as well as the exclusive features of Perseid Water Day.
This year’s edition also featured the Bibliomobile des Bibliothèques de Laval, as well as the Club d’astronomie de Boisbriand and Club d’astronomie de Saint-Eustache with solar telescopes!
Families enthusiastically took part inSi l’eau pouvait parler, a collaborative activity organized by Sainte-Rose’s two science museums: Éco-Nature and C.I.EAU.
Kiosk activities were all related to waste: Cosmodôme, waste from the cosmos; Éco-Nature, waste in the environment; Armand-Frappier, waste in the blood; and C.I.EAU, waste and water quality.
Finally, participants in the film-conference and water tasting, hosted by Benoit Chevrier with the collaboration of Denise Cloutier, President of the Conseil des bassins versants des Milles Îles (COBAMIL), and offered in partnership with Ville de Laval, had the opportunity to learn more about the quality of the river’s water and the importance of its optimal treatment.
The most daring participated in a blind tasting of water from four municipalities. The tasting rankings reveal the tasters’ preference in this order: Sainte-Adèle, Montreal, Rosemère and Saint-Colomban (well water).
The event closed at around 5:30 p.m. due to weather conditions. The conference on extraterrestrial water will be presented shortly by C.I.EAU.
C.I.EAU would like to thank all the participants, staff, volunteers and partners of this year’s event.
The Musée de l’Eau also acknowledges the support of the City of Laval, represented by Mrs. Flavia Novac, as well as that of Mr. Christopher Skeete, MNA for Sainte-Rose, Minister for the Economy, Minister responsible for the Fight against Racism and Minister responsible for the Laval region.
A quote from our General Manager Mélanie Paquette during her opening remarks:
“An event like this couldn’t happen without the support of our audience. That’s why I’d like to invite you, our attendees, to consider supporting the museum, whether through a donation or by sharing your experience of the day with your friends and family. Your involvement is essential if we are to continue offering enriching and educational activities like this, not only this year, but for years to come. Together, let’s make sure that “A Perseid Water Day will become a not-to-be-missed event in Laval, celebrating both water and the nature that surrounds us.”
