For several years, the Centre d’interprétation de l’eau (C.I.EAU) has been actively involved in raising awareness of responsible water management.
To take awareness-raising a step further, in 2023 our team, in collaboration with a committee of hydrologists, engineers and water specialists, developed an offer for municipalities presenting a panoply of awareness-raising tools to reach citizens. This offer was officially launched at the Fédération québécoise des municipalités trade show.
In 2024, C.I.EAU plans to intensify its efforts by exploring new avenues for communicating directly with community citizens. Indeed, the charity has responded to numerous requests for conferences, panels, awareness-raising kiosks and scriptwriting mandates since the launch of the offer.
The Econeau community of practice at C.I.EAU
Drawing on its expertise and numerous municipal consultations, the organization presented its initiatives at an official meeting with members of the Econeau committee, a Réseau Environnement program bringing together municipal players involved in water awareness.
The presentation took place on Thursday June 06, during the last Econeau community of practice, at the Centre d’interprétation de l’eau, in the Salle André-Perrault. Participants attended a community of practice, one segment of which presented various ways of raising public awareness recommended by C.I.EAU.

After the presentation, members shared a snack before discovering the permanent exhibition Le chemin de l’eau, de la rivière à la rivière, during a guided tour of the museum.
Presentations on water at the latest STEQ event
This presentation follows on from C.I.EAU’s active participation at the recent Salon des technologies environnementales du Québec, organized by Réseau Environnement. Benoit Chevrier, science popularizer, represented C.I.EAU as official moderator of a panel and presenter for conferences related to drinking water management.
The panel entitled “The meter: the right tool for protecting drinking water sources” sparked debate among the government, municipal and private sector experts and technologists in attendance.
C.I.EAU would like to thank all the panelists for their participation and constructive comments: Marie-Josée Barrieault, Director of Strategic Water Management, Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation du Québec (MAMH), Anne-Marie Cantin, Environmental Advisor, Ville de Québec, Mathieu Maisonneuve, Mayor, Ville de Saint-Lin-Laurentides and Philippe Gachon, Professor, Université du Québec à Montréal.
New kick-off in the province!
On April 25, Réseau Environnement officially announced the deployment of a new water awareness campaign for which C.I.EAU has become the stakeholder for the water professions. C.I.EAU had already participated with the Regroupement des Organismes de bassin versants du Québec (ROBVQ), and Réseau, in the Pensez Bleu en 2021 campaign.
