En Eaux Troubles – a look back at our time at Eureka!

Spectacle En Eaux Troubles animé par Benoit Chevrier sur la scène centrale de Eurêka - 26 mai 2024

From Friday May 24 to Sunday May 26, the C.I.EAU museum was closed to the public. Visitors were invited to join the C.I.EAU team at the Eureka Festival, the 17th edition of this major science festival held in Montreal’s Parc Jean-Drapeau!

Employees and volunteers set about welcoming schools to the Water Zone on Friday. All around the big top, the Biosphère’s magnificent nature-inspired décor embellished the passage of visitors to the kiosk.

Crisis at the heart of the watershed

Gilles Hubert , volunteer, and Benoit Chevrier, C.I.EAU employee, presenting the water cycle with the Crise in the heart of the watershed activity in the kiosk.

The Crise au cœur du bassin versant activity was a continuation of Bassin renversant, presented at the Journées Lire et Découvrir as part of a Canada-wide project to be unveiled shortly. The watershed model, on loan from the Yamaska watershed organization, demonstrated the water cycle and the phenomenon of evaporation. The demonstration raised awareness among young and old alike of the need to protect water resources in the current climate crisis.

Nearly 2,000 Festival participants interacted with C.I.EAU and took part in an awareness-raising activity as part of the GenerationAction program.

En Eaux Troubles – a first for C.I.EAU

The weekend continued in sunshine and good spirits, and ended with a C.I.EAU premiere. On Sunday, May 26, at noon, our science popularizer, Benoit Chevrier, hosted the very first performance of the interactive show En Eaux Troubles! An interactive quiz pitting two families against each other, determined to use skill and speed to answer questions about water. Hands rushed to the buzzers to earn as many points as possible to win an unusual C.I.EAU prize worth $500!

En Eaux Troubles attracted almost 200 curious onlookers, who watched the duel on stage and were able to answer questions with the red dice. Colorful bubble columns adorned the participants’ tables for this clash reminiscent of Clan Wars and Budding Genius! Adults, children and teenagers had a great time learning about water, and many participants and audience members said that a visit to the water museum was a must to perfect their knowledge!

Eau secours des Eauvillois for families

3 families registered for the quiz and won C.I.EAU’s flagship event: Eau Secours des Eauvillois. This activity, presented exclusively to schools, consists of a day (5 hours) of laboratory work to treat raw water, followed by a team activity to assemble the aqueduct network! The activity will be offered to winning families on Saturday, September 14. Don’t miss C.I.EAU’s coverage of this upcoming festive day!

The C.I.EAU is very proud of its show and hopes to share it with other audiences to promote water awareness through play!

Participants were then invited to the main stage for Yannick Bergeron’s show! His prestigious show La Magie de la Chimie will be presented at the winning school of the Deviens un Superéco avec GénérationAction contest on Friday, May 31.

A team success

C.I.EAU would like to thank L’Île du savoir, the main organization behind the Eureka Festival, as well as all our participants, team members and volunteers, without whom C.I.EAU would not exist. We can’t wait for next year, when we’ll once again take part in these festivities promoting scientific culture!
