Why give to the campaign

Stimulate young people's interest in the scientific culture of water

C.I.EAU’s mission is to promote the protection and responsible use of water. This primary mission includes two secondary missions: toexplain the technical aspects related to the production and distribution of drinking water, to the responsible use of this precious resource, and to the ecological disposal of wastewater in urban areas.

What does C.I.EAU do to interest young people in scientific culture?

In fact, C.I.EAU aims to be the benchmark for water education. C.I.EAU is for everyone, adults and children alike. However, the focus is on young people from pre-school through to university.

1

The permanent exhibition of the C.I.EAU Museum: the path of water: from river to river

First of all, we can’t talk about C.I.EAU without mentioning its Museum. Since 2008, the C.I.EAU Museum has welcomed visitors of all ages. A special place is given to primary and secondary school students, who can be introduced to water treatment by visiting the Museum with their teacher. Artifacts describing the various stages of water and wastewater treatment are on display. What’s more, through our Lab’Eau, young people can reproduce experiments that raise their awareness of the significant differences between responsible water use and wasteful consumption. Each visit is accompanied by a C.I.EAU guide.

2

Temporary exhibitions

The C.I.EAU also presents temporary exhibitions in the Salle André Perrault, such as: A history of water quality.

In a nutshell, this exhibition tells the story of wastewater treatment in Quebec from the early 20th century to the present day, and its impact on water quality in rivers and the St. Lawrence River. The story revolves around the particular context of the resort and water-based leisure activities of the town of Sainte-Rose, until the closure of its many beaches in 1960.

3

Pedagogical offer

The educational offer is aimed primarily at young people in primary and secondary school:

CPEs, day-care centers and preschools;
Elementary cycle 1 and 2;
Secondary cycle 1 and 2

In all, there are 10 different activities adapted to the age groups of the students.

4

For colleges and universities

Eau Cube Technique Water or wastewater section

In addition to the Museum and its activities, CEGEP and university students can benefit from this interactive lecture on the complex processes involved in water and wastewater treatment plants. The perfect introduction to the water industry and its know-how! Available for presentation to academic institutions.

5

Visits to drinking water and wastewater treatment plants

Join a water or wastewater specialist on a guided tour of a water or wastewater treatment plant. A guided tour of a plant is the perfect way to inform participants about the various drinking water or wastewater treatment processes and how they work. The tour is enriched by demonstration equipment and ingenious explanatory panels, as well as pertinent commentary by the animator.

Note that the panels presenting the treatment units are the exclusive work of C.I.EAU.

6

Offer to municipalities

How can we raise awareness of responsible water management among local residents?

The C.I.EAU offers a number of services to municipalities, including station scenarization, virtual tours, conferences and awareness kiosks.

7

C.I.EAU's participation in several related activities outside the Museum

For example, C.I.EAU takes part in activities such as Eureka, Quebec’s biggest science festival for the whole family! This festival takes place every year at Parc Jean-Drapeau. This year, C.I.EAU had a booth on the theme of “Crisis at the heart of the watershed”, and presented an interactive quiz called “En Eaux Troubles”.
